flight of Friendship 7 - First American in Obit
The above link is to a NASA documentary video about America’s first manned orbital flight. John Glenn was aboard the Friendship 7 Mercury capsule which was launched on top of an Atlas rocket. This flight occurred 50 years ago to day (2/20/2012) on February 20 1962.
